Come Blow Your Horn (1963) Won't Be Letterboxed on TCM

Despite featuring a prime, Rat Pack era, Frank Sinatra, Come Blow Your Horn, the 1963 film adaptation of Neil Simon’s play is, by most accounts, not very good. But I wouldn’t know.

The print being shown by Turner Classic Movies isn’t letterboxed, despite the film’s 2.35 : 1 aspect ratio, which means that roughly a third of the picture is missing, resulting in a cramped mess. I turned it off after five minutes.

I contacted TCM about the problem, and they regretfully informed me that the print they’re showing is the only one available from the film’s distributor. Compounding this is the fact that film isn’t available on DVD, letterboxed or otherwise. MORE »

Smiley Face Gets Dumped to DVD

Smiley Face, the new stoner-comedy from Gregg Araki that played to standing-room-only crowds at this year’s Sundance, is going straight to DVD. Well, almost. Distributor First Look will give it a one-theater run in LA that reeks of satisfying a contractual clause.

Compounding this is the fact the DVD won’t drop until January, almost a full year after its bravo showing in Sundance. Wow, way to kill the buzz there, First Look.

No F’s so far, but an unusually large number of A’s.

Finally, according to my logs, the most popular review so far is The Simpsons Movie (2007).
